Back to Basics 2022: Something for Everyone

Updated: Nov 10, 2021

Happy Dancing Turtle is gearing up for our 16th Annual Back to Basics kicking off on January 22, 2022! This year will feature both virtual and in-person options.

The event starts on Saturday, January 22 with a virtual keynote presentation from Diane Wilson, former executive director for the Native American Food Sovereignty Alliance and author most recently of ‘The Seed Keeper.’ At that time, all virtual workshops will become available for participants to view at their leisure, for a period of two weeks.

In-person classes will begin that week as well, running as a series of evening classes through February 25. Classes will be held at the Pine River-Backus High School.

The vendor/exhibitor fair will be held outdoors and later this year: Saturday, May 21st at the Lakes Music & Events Park in Pine River. Select workshops and activities for the whole family will also be offered there.

If you would like to join us for any or all of these exciting Back to Basics options, watch for our announcement about when event registration opens or click here to check on the date.

Become a presenter or vendor

If you would like to be a presenter or a vendor (or both)--please read on:

Presenters

If you’ve been a B2B presenter in other years or want to join us as a presenter this year, there are two options for presenters! You may offer a pre-recorded workshop presentation that will be available for paid participants to watch virtually for a period of two weeks starting Saturday, January 22. This recording may be offered on other platforms by Happy Dancing Turtle in the future as well. Recorded workshops should be 45-60 minutes in length. You are welcome to record your own and send it to us, or HDT staff can work with you to record over Zoom. There is a $50 stipend offered for each virtual workshop.

There is also the option to do an in-person workshop. In-person workshops will start the week of January 24 and will take a similar format to Community Education class offerings, with one or two classes held each week in a classroom at Pine River Backus High School through February 25. Classes will start between 5:30 and 6:30 on select nights and run for one - two hours, at the presenter’s preference. Only one class will be held each night. We are offering a stipend of $50 for each in-person workshop.

Presentation proposals are due Wednesday, Dec 1, 2021If you are interested in presenting at Back to Basics, please click here to access the forms.

Vendors/Exhibitors

The Vendor Fair will undergo an exciting new change this year! Rather than being held at Pine River-Backus School in January, the 2022 B2B Vendor Fair will take place on Saturday, May 21st at the Lakes Music & Events Park in Pine River. This is an outdoor venue that features a covered space for booths to set up in. The cost for an 8’x8’ space is $30. Select workshops and activities for the whole family will be offered on that date as well, also at the Lakes Music & Events Park, which should increase overall attendance.

If you are interested in vending or exhibiting at Back to Basics at the new outdoor venue in May, please click here to access the forms on the Happy Dancing Turtle website. The deadline for registering to be a vendor or exhibitor is as long as space is available.

The wealth of knowledge and experience and the quality of goods and services shared at our event are invaluable and a huge asset to all who attend. Please consider sharing that wisdom by being a part of Back to Basics 2022. If you have any questions about event, please contact us at b2b@happydancingturtle.org.
