Fun Foods for Families

When: Tuesday, October 12, 2010    3:00-5:00p.m.
Where: Pine River-Backus High School FACS Room #49
Fee: $8 for the first 2 family members + $2 for each additional person
Grades: K-6       Limit: 10 child/adult pairs

Explore the world of healthy food...kids will begin at 3:00 making and tasting some new, healthy snack options that are fun to make, and fun to eat!  Parents will join us at 4:00 and learn some creative ways to prepare squash, kale, and potatoes.  We'll join together at the end to sample what we make and everyone goes home with a head of garlic.

*Children MUST have an adult joining them.

Forest Fun for Kids: Find your Eco-Compass

When: Tuesday, October 19, 2010  3:00-4:00p.m.
Where: Pine River-Backus School Forest (meet in Commons)
Who: Grades 3-6 Fee: $3 per child        Limit: 15 children

Learn how to find your way around the forest using a compass and landmarks.  Snack provided

Raising Animals on a Small Scale

When: Thursday October 21, 2010    6:00-8:00p.m.
Where: Hunt Utilities Group Campus, Hwy 2 West of Pine River
Who: Adults-ages 15 & up         Fee: $4/person

Learn how to get stated raising rabbits, chickens, ducks or maybe a pig. Find out how much meat to expect from your animals (and when), how much to pay for food and housing and how to butcher them.

Friday Film Night: "Fresh"

When: Friday October 22     5:30-
Where: Hunt Utilities Group Campus, Hwy 2 West of Pine River
Who: Adults Fee: Free

Join us for a potluck and film showing on the local food movement. Tired of movies only showing the problems we face?  Here is an alternative, showing how farmers are changing the system.  The movie "Fresh" highlights several farmers changing the way our food is grown and thought about.  Potluck starts at 5:30, please bring a dish to share.  Movie starts at 6:00 with a discussion to follow.
